How to Use Ozempic

Ozempic (semaglutide) is a medication used to manage type 2 diabetes. It is administered as a once-weekly injection to help control blood sugar levels. Follow the instructions below to ensure proper usage.

Step 1: Preparing the Injection

  • Check the Pen: Before each use, inspect the Ozempic pen to ensure the solution is clear and colorless.
  • Choose the Dose: Your healthcare provider will advise on the correct dosage (0.5mg or 1mg). Dial the correct dose on the pen.
  • Attach the Needle: Twist a new, sterile needle onto the tip of the pen. Remove the outer and inner needle caps.

Step 2: Choosing an Injection Site

  • Common Areas: Inject Ozempic into the fatty layer of skin on your stomach, thigh, or upper arm.
  • Rotate Injection Sites: To avoid skin irritation, rotate the injection site with each use.

Step 3: Administering the Injection

  • Hold the Pen Correctly: Hold the pen at a 90-degree angle to your skin.
  • Press the Button: Press and hold the button until the dose counter shows “0.”
  • Wait: Keep the pen in place for at least 6 seconds after pressing the button to ensure the full dose is delivered.

Step 4: After the Injection

  • Remove the Needle: Twist off the needle and safely dispose of it in a sharps container.
  • Store the Pen: Store your Ozempic pen in a refrigerator or at room temperature as recommended. Do not freeze it.

Important Notes:

  • Missed Dose: If you miss a dose, inject it as soon as you remember. If it has been more than 5 days since the missed dose, skip the dose and take the next one at your regular time.
  • Storage: Store unopened pens in the refrigerator. Once in use, pens can be stored at room temperature (below 30°C) for up to 6 weeks.
